An Updated List of Repairs that CaseMogul and Other Independent Repair Shops Fix that Apple will not and the Reasons Why

You broke your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch and need to get it repaired. You are deciding if you should go directly to Apple to get it fixed or if you should go to CaseMogul. Here are some reasons why going to Apple may not be the best idea.

Why you should consider taking your phone to CaseMogul or another independent repair shop instead of to Apple:

If we take a look at Apple’s website: https://support.apple.com/en-ca/iphone/repair/service you will notice that Apple breaks down its repairs into three main buckets. Battery Repair, Screen Repair or Other repairs. This essentially tells you all you need to know. When you take it to Apple, Apple’s technicians have only three real choices for your phone repair 1) replace the battery, 2) replace the entire screen assembly or 3) replace the phone completely. This means that if you just need your front camera repaired, Apple repair technicians will actually replace your screen assembly completely. This means you will be charged for the price of a whole new iphone screen assembly (This price includes a new LCD, a new front camera, a new front speaker and a brand new home button). The price of all these parts is way more than what you need to pay for. Why does apple do that you ask?

This is likely to maintain a certain level of repair quality standard. Apple cannot afford to train their entire world of repair technicians to do each individual repair. For example, a charge port repair on an iPhone 7, or an iPhone X is a very complicated repair process. We have to remove the motherboard in order to perform the charge port repair, and the ability to do this with confidence takes practice and time to build.

Below is a comprehensive list of iPhone and iPad repairs that CaseMogul does that are far cheaper than what Apple would charge you.

Details on what CaseMogul will fix that Apple will overcharge you on, or simply cannot fix.

1.iPhone Backplates
The iPhone 8, iPhone 8 plus, iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, Iphone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max have all come with a glass back instead of the older generations. This is an attractive feature as it gives the iPhone a cleaner and more stylish look, however it has also made it extremely easy to crack. The glass on the back of the iPhone X for example can be easily shatter if dropped on the ground. No one wants to have a cracked backplate. But since changing the backplate requires you to remove all of the components in the device and transfer it to a completely different housing, Apple will charge you for a brand new phone rather than charging you the service of repairing the backplate.  At CaseMogul, we have an advanced laser machine that is able to remove just the back glass. This allows us to avoid taking your phone apart and transferring all of its components to a brand new housing. This makes the process easier and a lot more efficient. With this machine, we are able to charge just $100 for the repair when Apple will charge you over $700 for this repair. What a deal!

2. iPhone Charge port repairs
iPhone charge ports easily get damaged given how much they get used each day, however Apple technicians are not trained to perform this repair. Over the years, the charge port repair on newer iPhone models have actually gotten more complicated. Iphone 11 series, iPhone X series and iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus repairs all require the motherboard to be essentially removed from the board in order for the repair to be done. In Apple’s point of view, this is a task that is far too dangerous to be trusted for Apple’s repair techs therefore instead of charging you for the labor and service of having it repaired. Apple will have you change out the ENTIRE PHONE. This can cost you more than $700 when the actual repair can be done by CaseMogul for as low as $80 for an iPhone 7 and up.

3. iPad charge port repairs
In order to fix an iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad Pro, iPad Air series charge port, you must remove the glass digitizer, this digitizer is adhered on with very strong adhesive to avoid your ipad digitizer every coming apart on regular use. This however makes it extremely difficult to repair without cracking the glass. You have to take the front glass off without scratching or cracking it in order to get to the charge port. Once you’ve opened it up, it’s not overly complex to change the charge port. However, Apple will charge you for the risk that they damage your front glass or will likely charge your to replace your iPad. CaseMogul has the technical skills to take off that glass without cracking it and replace your charge port. For iPad 5, iPad Pro 10.5, iPad Pro 12.9, iPad Air 2 along with iPad mini 1 iPad mini 2 iPad mini 3 and iPad mini 4, the charge port is actually soldered onto the motherboard. We can also do those repairs but once again, Apple doesn’t offer soldering repair services meaning if you bring them an iPad with a damaged charge port your chances of being overcharged are quite high! We charge approximately $80 for iPad Air and iPad air 2 charge ports, we take on the risk of damaging your front glass and don’t charge your for it and we can also do soldering jobs!

4. iPad LCD repairs
iPad LCD repairs are along the same vein as iPad charge port repairs. Have you every had an iPad where the glass was not cracked but the image behind it or inside it is showing weird colors or is just black? Similar to the above, Apple would charge you for a new glass digitizer when really all you needed was an LCD repair! CaseMogul can repair that without damaging the glass as well!

5. Bent iPhone or iPads
Have you ever had an iPhone or and iPad that you may have sat on or has somehow been bent out of shape? If you take it to the Apple store, they may tell you that this is not repairable. In the most extreme scenarios, we have seen customers bring iPhones to Apple with perhaps a corner dented in while everything else works perfectly and Apple will tell the customer that the phone needs to be completely replaced. This is likely because they don’t have the tools to unbend phones, or they don’t want to take on the risk that when bending the phone, the screen may crack or the phone may encounter other problems. Once again, CaseMogul offers bending services for most phones and iPad for only $25! That’s compared to $375 at Apple! What a deal!

6. iPhone Front Camera repair
The iPhone front camera is embedded in the front screen obviously, but in order to get to it, you must take out the top speaker, and you have to remove a few other components before you can gain access to it in order to replace it. Apple seems to not want to expose their technicians to this risk. So if you take your iPhone to apple and ask for a simple front camera replacement, they may charge you for an entire screen replacement. This particularly true for example for an home button repair as well. If you take an iPhone with a damaged home button to apple, they will charge you $170 which is the exact same price they would quote you if you brought in a phone that was completely shattered in the front. CaseMogul charges only $40 for a front camera replacement!

7. iPhone Top speaker repair
Same idea as above, Apple will charge you a for a full screen replacement even though you just needed your front speaker replaced. CaseMogul does this for $40!

8. iPhone Back Camera Lens repair
This is another good one, Apple will refuse to change your back camera lense on an iPhone but will likely ask you to get a new phone for $375. Why? Once again they don’t want to go through the hassle of teaching 1000 technicians how to carefully remove just the lense of their back camera because there is a chance of unintentionally stabbing the motherboard with your screw driver or damaing other components. A back camera glass lense repair however at CaseMogul is just $25!

9. iPhone and iPad common motherboard repairs
iPhone and iPad motherboard repairs involve BGA chip removal or soldering work. It is way too costly for Apple to train 1000 technicians how to have steady hands, read schematics, and diagnose problems only to have Jim or Jill leave to pursue their university degrees after working at Apple for 5 months. Motherboard repairs take practice and patience. There are very common problems including Touch disease for iPhone 6 and 6Plus along with Charge IC issues for iPads and iPhones that CaseMogul fixes on a daily basis that Apple refuses to touch. This is especially bad if you want to retrieve the data from your phone, you could care less if the phone is fixed but you just want your data! Apple would likely only be able to offer you a replacement and not a fix.

10. Older iPhone models
If you try taking an old iPhone 4 to Apple and ask them to change your backplate they will likely not be able to do it simply because it would be too inefficient to carry parts for phones that are older than 2 or 3 years. CaseMogul obviously carries parts for almost every phone model, and if we don’t have that phone model we could always order the part in. So another reason why you should give CaseMogul a try the next time you have a phone repair!
